About this

In an age in which fear has literally screeched our world to a halt, understanding how we can go beyond this instinctive reaction is essential for our survival as individuals, and as a species. Cultivating courage is a process we all will benefit from, so that we can create a better world, driven by the many opposites of fear.
The fundamental premise of the book is simple: Fear makes us stiff, clumsy and shortsighted, and generally hard to be around. Furthermore, when fear elevates our alarm status long-term, we are deprived of happiness, the way it heals the body, mind and soul. When once we essentially locked ourselves in a prison of lower emotions, now we have a choice. We have allowed our culture of fear to darken our minds for far too long. No more. This profound, very well-received book maps the way out of a fear based thought system, into the calm, focused Super Self that we all have within us.
If we are to transcend the limitations imposed by a contracted perspective, we must develop our ability to remain calm in a crisis. This book presents perspectives and specific methods for relaxing into dangerous situations, as well as scientific evidence to support the reasons for this unique and powerful approach to dealing with fear.
About the Author
As a highly experienced skydiver, parachute test pilot and long-time psychology researcher, Brian Germain offers a unique personalized perspective on the phenomenon of fear. Reflecting on his many intense experiences with fear, Brian sorts through the most current psychology research on fear, and presents the ways to de-escalate the emotional response in provocative situations.
It applies to everyday life and helps you learn how to stop fear from holding you back. I highly recommend this book for everyone!
5.0 out of 5 stars Life-changing exceptionally good book not just for Skydivers
Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2020Verified PurchaseWhen I started this book I thought it was more about Skydivers, I soon learned it was a deep dive in the psychology of fear. My wife and I have been skydiving for about one year, But we both continue to have issues with Landings. As Brian Discusses fear can destroy everything. My wife actually had been landing very well before she had an accident a few weeks ago… Due to fear.I have shared this book with many of my friends & family, because as I read it I could see how fear had shaped and altered all of their lives. Brian Germain is a very subtle but exceptional psychologist, but he speaks about fear from direct experience as an adventure seeking young man. EXCELLENT!
5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT book for skydiviers and non-skydivers alike
Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2010Verified PurchaseWhat an engaging, useful, insightful book. Loved, loved, loved it. I used to skydive so much of the content was relevant to me, but you do not have to be a skydiver to find enormous value in this book. There is actually very few skydiving references. It is an absolute must read for anyone participating in extreme sports or just for life in general - we ALL have fears of some sort at some point... stage fright, heights, spiders, flying... This book really helps one embrace fear and use it as a tool to become a better more enlightened human being. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Verified PurchaseI've never spent so much time re-reading words or entire paragraphs like I did with this book. I've never highlighted so many paragraphs and/or sent them to friends via texts. I really do feel this book is amazing and it can actually make a change in anyone who gives it a chance.I loved it and I can see that I am starting to change (from small things like going down on a steep hill to skydiving).
Thanks Brian for a great book!
